Writing style

Like all writers, I have my own writing style I naturally use when I’m writing my own article ideas, blog entries, books, etc. However, when you hire me to write something, this isn’t necessarily the style I will use. If I’m writing a financial services website, the tone of my writing would reflect that company’s branding and audience. If I’m writing an article assigned by a women’s magazine, I use the voice that fits that magazine’s demographics and editorial vision. It’s not unlike graphic or website design: a designer has a variety pallets, visual styles and tools to reflect the needs of different market segments. As a writer, I have my own toolbox of varied sentence structures, vocabulary sets, and devices to target your readers.

A word about editing and proofreading

Editing and proofreading mean different things, and there are different levels within each category. Here are a few different approaches to editing and proofreading:

Making sure all the grammar and punctuation is accurate
Tweaking to make a piece of writing fit within the overall voice of a larger piece
Rewriting a finished piece to make it easier or more engaging to read (often useful when an expert in a particular area has written something that needs a writerly touch)
Editing to make stylistic features (terminal commas, formatting, naming conventions, etc.) consistent
